Service description

When a BMW engine ECU is faulty, it is generally not possible to install a used ECU directly.
The immobiliser prevents the vehicle from starting until the ECU is correctly adapted to the vehicle.

A new ECU is often very expensive and requires programming at a dealership.
Adapting a used engine ECU is a reliable technical alternative, when the conditions are right.

• Internal electronic fault
• Damage caused by water ingress

Solutions proposed according to the type of computer

Cloning 1:1

Complete copy of data from the original ECU to a strictly identical used ECU
(same manufacturer reference), when the model is supported by our interfaces.

Adaptation by ISN code

Reads the ISN code (security key) from the key management module, then writes it to the engine ECU
(DME / DDE), enabling synchronisation with the vehicle's immobiliser.

Necessary elements for the intervention

Cloning 1:1

• A used ECU with exactly the same part number as the original one

Non-communicating calculator

• Key management module (CAS, FEM, BDC, BCM depending on vehicle model)
• At least one functional key

In this case, the security key is read from the key module and written to the engine ECU,
with the chassis number (VIN) updated to ensure complete synchronisation.

Additional step depending on the model

On certain ECU models, additional intervention via the OBD socket is required after
alignment of the immobiliser.

• Adaptation to specific vehicle configurations
• Harmonisation of engine and transmission parameters
• Correction of mapping differences when several vehicles share the same type of ECU
